It was a brilliant winter's day in Taupo - sunny, clear, "perfect" declared Taupo Times photographer, Anna Campbell. And for her I suppose it was.
We drove to Wharewaka Point where the lake and the mountains and some rocks all aligned in inspirational symmetry. I knew I would be the weakest link.
I stood on a rock and pouted and simpered; I changed rocks and looked authorial. "Walk towards me', Anna cried, and I undulated across the sand like a cat walk model, my hips and my shoulders moving to different rhythms.
"Look here, now here, now here," Anna cried, clicking furiously, as she masterminded my finest hour. My eyes spun like a cat that fell asleep in the spin dryer.
Anna moved in for the closeups - Deep Throat was never this intimate. My eyes glazed and crossed as the camera hovered six inches from my left nostril.
Finally, Anna said we were done. She sent me a few photos from the shoot and I actually even like one of them where I look sort of pensive. This is no reflection upon Anna - I'm not the easiest person to photograph. Even people who know me are a little surprised at the contortions my face will attempt on film.
I'm hoping that the photo Anna has chosen for the article is a little like the pensive one. I suspect it will be. They're a nice lot at the Taupo Times.

It sounds like the shoot went well. I'm glad.
The photographer appears to know what she's doing and if she's let you have a look at the results then I'd take it as good sign.
Sounds like a great shoot. Now the question is: does the Taupo Times have a website, so we can all read the interview and see the picture??? Terrie
Did you enter the pirate contest yet? :) Just stopping by to say hi
Sounds very cool! And i don't think you are difficult to photograph, just hard on yourself!
Do we get to see the end results?
Wow, I'm impressed--it sounds like a serious photo shoot, not a "lets get this over with now smile thank you very much!"
I'm sure you look great and I can't wait to see the photo and article, if there's indeed some way we'll be able to do that on the web.
(Otherwise, there will be hordes of Flightless Writer blog fans descending upon your home, scaring the doggies and demanding peeks at the paper and inquiring about the availability of cream-filled apple donuts).
Be sure and post a link when the piece comes out, if the newsaper has an online presence that is.
I think most people hate their own photographs. i know i do and it took a lot of self-coaxing to take a few this past weekend just so I could post them on my blog.
Leah - Anna was great. It certainly did help knowing that at least one of us knew what they were doing!
Terrie - Unfortunately they don't but there is a site that publishes some articles from the local rag and if it doesn't get on that then I will put it on the blog.
Lady Rose - I haven't yet - I seem to be dashing round in a dozen different directions. I must do so today because I'd love to win a copy of Alex and the Ironic Gentleman.
Adrienne - Just the lady I want to see! Hold that closing date. I'm entering today!
You will see the results. It may even be compulsary viewing!
Crabby - In a week's time, when I say for the six hundreth time "as I mentioned in my interview with the Taupo Times", you guys are going to be so regretting this kind display of interest!
Travis - I'll be over to your site later to check them out! Six foot romance writers are rare!
Was it a nude shoot?
What? I'm just curious...
Robeiae - Once it's published, I'll put the photo from the Taupo Times on the blog, and when I do, you are going to be so glad that I kept my clothes on! Besides it's winter here in New Zealand.
My mother always warned me about the serious types!
That sounds like an amazing experience. Small papers don't usually go to such an extreme. Sounds like you could be a big feature!!!
Can't wait for you to put the shots up on your website
Talia - I think Anna very wisely recognised that she might need a few shots to choose from!
