It's been a difficult time over the last few weeks.
You'll remember out six lovely puppies - four of which had left home and we kept two. Well - out of the six, only three are left. Parvovirus swept through the local dog community and three of the puppies died. Our two, Bruiser and Jem have both survived and a little bitch that went just a couple of hundred metres down the road. The three that lived are the three that received veterinary care - so be warned - if parvo is in your area, get them help. They won't survive without it.
Bruiser was very bad with it. He is still very skinny despite getting three good meals a day. It is taking a long time to get the weight back on him. Jem went down after Bruiser so that he wasn't quite so advanced with the parvo when we called in the vet. It just feels so sad losing the other puppies after seeing them born and everything. They were such dear wee things. Both the little grey ones died.
Anyway - that left us with the most horrendous veterinary bill. Over a thousand dollars!
So it's been back to work for me over this last month picking tomatoes. I did work at this a few years ago but I was a few years younger too! I found it HARD this time. I picked around 2000kg each day and was just so tired when I got home that I could hardly move! Luckily, hubbie was really suportive and cooked dinner.
The good news is that the vet bill is paid, I've left the tomato glasshouse and am back at home, working on my website, lots of ideas in my head and with good intentions of getting back into the blogging a little more.
My Probiotic website is growing. It's up to around eighty pages now and I do enjoy doing it. Not ready to monetise yet but not far off. I'll keep you posted as to how things go in case anyone else is looking at that sort of thing.
Some of you will have spotted me lurking about on your blogs over the last few days as I start to update myself on all your news.
I'm still trying to get the tomato stains out of my skin after the month at the glasshouse! It's given me the most tremendous idea for a short story. Might try my hand at the Six Pack competition again. Some of you will be thinking "I think this is where I came in last year"! and you'd be right. I started blogging immediately after the judges didn't like the lovely story I wrote them last year.
Doesn't time fly!

Dawn! So glad to see you back, even if your news is so sad. My heart goes out to you and the puppy's owners. The Bag Lady is well-acquainted with how hard it is to lose a pet.
Pretty sure you won't be wanting to look at tomatoes anytime soon, though! From this end, a nice, home-grown tasty tomato would be divine right about now. Sigh.
Aw, the hell with it - I'm planting some tomato seeds today, even if it IS about a month too early!
Dawn, so sorry about the puppies!Wow, you have a lot of information on your other site though. Glad to see you back here.
I'm so sorry about the puppies. It must be very difficult for you.
In a selfish move I'm very glad to see you blogging again and I'm so pleased you've found time to catch up on my posts.
Hi Dawn!
So sorry to hear about the pups. We've missed you! The probiotic site looks great, and such a helpful resource.
I'm like Leah, I'm selfishly very happy that you're back. We love hearing about your exploits. And I'll be very curious about your next short story!
I'm sorry about the puppies - will keep them and you in my prayers.
Our dog of over 15 yrs old (half beagel and half miniture collie) is not having a good week -- she is barely eating and only if we bring her a few scraps, and the cold is causing her a lot of pain so we have to carry her outside. Each day we have with her we are grateful, but we know that we will probably be saying good bye in the not to distant future.
Bad News about the puppies and the vet bills, but glad you're done with your indentured servitude at the tomato dome. Actually, I'd like to know what that's like and what it entails, or should I wait for the short story?
In any case, it was a pleasant surprise to see that familiar head break the surface of our blog, and I'm glad you're back. I've toured your probiotic site. Very detailed and interesting stuff! It's obvious you have a lot of experience with it and passion for it, so keep us posted on the goings on.
Bag Lady - Not a tomato sandwich in sight, I can promise you!
Reb - I'm really enjoying writing for my Probiotic site. Hopefully it isn't going to drag me away from other writing.
Leah - Do you like raspberries? It was raspberry season here in NZ while you were so ill, and everytime I went out to pick raspberries, I thought of you.
Obviously some connection at a mystical level!
Crabby - Just hope the judges like my effort this year more than they did last years. Mind you, I still like that last story. Maybe I'll enter it again in the hope that there are fresh judges (who share my taste in short stories)!
Lady Rose - I feel for you with your old girl. My very old min poodle just sort of let me know when it was the right day to let him move on. I'm sure your old dog will too.
Clare - I'm not holding out much hope for my "tomato" short story but who knows. It certainly was an interesting place to work - for a very short time!
welcome back to blogland!
sorry to hear about your wee puppies :(
Dawn, yes I do like raspberries. How interesting you'd think of me then. I'm glad you did and it's good to hear it. Thanks.
Sarah Bean - Nice to meet you.
Leah - It was downright weird! Everytime I headed off to the raspberry patch with my little bowl, there'd you be in my head. Every time!
I'm a raspberry lover so I felt it was a good omen whatever it actually meant.
Dawn,
How horrible about the puppies. I am so sad that you had to deal with the grief and the bills at the same time.
Still, it is lovely to hear from you again. I will pop over to the other site to see how much it has grown in recent weeks.
Terrie
DAWN IS BACK!!!
I am so glad you are back. You've been missed by many here in blogland!!!
