Okay you digital camera experts!

Tell me what I'm doing wrong. Please!!

It's most frustrating. My digital camera is refusing to download onto the computer. It is hoarding its images like a miser.

Normally, I just plug the camera (a Cannon) into the computer and hey presto a screen pops up in ZoomBrowser and I download the images.

Now, all I get is a polite message in ZoomBrowser saying "cannot detect camera"!

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Ever run into this sort of thing before? Do I need to go to my local computer guy - or digital camera guy?

I have images - I will blog - but first we need to beat this camera into shape!

Oh shoot, wish I could help but ours is just the plug it in and it works type.

Is there a Cannon online manual or, even better, a live customer service person who could help? Sometimes online geeks have been really helpful for me in talking me through technical issues.

But I imagine you probably tried this route... wish I knew more about how this stuff works!

Can't wait to see the pictures.

I had this problem once and it turned out to be my cable.

Dear Dawn,

I don't even own a camera. The fact that you have one means you are braver than i am!

Good luck!

I can suggest some swear words.
My thought is to just put in the memory card rather than connect the whole camera and see if it reads that way. If not, well, someone will be along to give you some real help.

Did the camera come with a disk to install a program into your computer? You could try reinstalling it.
I can also help with the swear words....
Unfortunately, I have a lot of trouble downloading my own pictures, so the only advice I can offer is - don't take advice from me!

Love the poem in the post below.

It is probably your cable, try a different USB port and if that doesn't work reinstall the software. I know my old computer wouldn't read one of the USB ports unless all the rest were in use, even then it was iffy.

Thanks everyone. Some helpful ideas there. I shall run through them all - starting with a few choice swear words - until I get to the bottom of it.

Hi Dawn,
Try plugging the USB cable into a different USB port on your computer. Those ports can be a little ditsy. You might be using a different one than you originally used?

Hmm, I've had this problem before and it turned out to be the USB hub I was using. The computer wasn't recognizing the hub into which my card reader was plugged. The way I fixed the problem was to unplug the hub then re-plug it, then my computer recognized it.

I hope you can get it figured out! It's frustrating when technology gets all wonky. And I look forward to seeing your pictures. :)
